The American Patriot’s Bible: The Word of God and the Shaping  of America is edited by Dr. Richard G. Lee and comes as the New King James Version (NKJV). It is a study Bible and is chock full of information about the founding of America and the role that Christianity has played throughout the life of this country.

I have seen many reviews that state that the reviewer felt that the information about the various statesmen, politicians and other noteworthy (famous) Americans should not be included in a Bible. In some ways, I agree as it seems almost sacrilegious to have something other than the Word of God in the Bible. However, I find the information contained herein along with and embedded throughout the Scriptures to be quite enlightening because I, like most people, would not just pick up a history book or a book containing all of the non-Biblical information in this Bible and read it as a stand-alone work. Furthermore, I do not see how this particular type of Study Bible is any less or worse than other Study Bibles on the Market for each type of Study Bible has a purpose, an intended audience and contains another man’s thoughts on the Scriptures and how best to understand/apply them. So, for someone wanting to explore the Christian heritage of America along with having a well laid out Bible, I would recommend this book for them. If, however, a person wanted a Study Bible that would be more helpful in illuminating the Word and helping a person apply the Word to Life, another type of Study Bible would be a better fit.

Have you ever wanted to live your life without fear but don’t know where to start or how to do it? If so, then consider Max Lucado’s book, Fearless. Lucado’s book is written in an easy, conversational style in the same manner that you and a group of friends may speak about any topic over a sandwich and fries at the local diner or a cup of coffee and slice of cake on a fall afternoon.

In Fearless, Max tackles many of the areas that frequently hold people in the grips of anxiety: Children, disappointing God, losing health, money matters, etc. It is easy in today’s world to find oneself bound by fear and stress. In Fearless, Max Lucado expertly weaves Scripture and life lessons into a cohesive whole that many people will be able to read in a few sessions. His writing here will leave you wanting more, pondering how to apply what he says to your life and will have you recommending this book to family and friends.

One of the features that I like is the discussion section at the end where, chapter by chapter, quotes and questions are asked; Scriptures are given to read; and there is meat to chew on long after the book itself is done. This is important for people who either do not have a lot of fears ruling their lives and for those who do and are ready to do some work to overcome them.

In a nutshell, although I review for Thomas Nelson (this is my first review, YEAH!), I would highly recommend Fearless to anyone who is reading at a sixth grade reading level and beyond; to those who are seeking a different kind of Bible study and don’t want a heavy-duty one at this time; to folks who are seeking something different to read that is both entertaining, easy to understand yet filled with thought-provoking, gray-matter tickling information; and for any fan of Max Lucado’s work.
Enjoy this newest book by Max and tell your friends all about it!
